Mirror

Mirrors line smoky hallways

devoid of voices or sounds

other than heavy feet.

I stand before the city of industry

concrete, steel, and glass.

The city falls before me.

Who?  How?

These hands heavy and soaked.

Gasoline permeates the evening air

beneath the greying sky.

I do not remember coming here.

I am not certain where this is.

Ravens circle in widening patterns

before disappearing into the hazy horizon.

I am sure this was not me.

This city lives and suffocates

beneath its own immense weight.

Layers of dust and grime

consumed by native grasses

the laws here I do not understand

something beyond me has taken over.

With eyes closed I navigate into the ruins.
