  • Poem – What the Fields Hide

Leaving behind the city we pass the line separating concrete and dirt path. Recent snow has hardened and crunches with each step. I pause and silence myself and hear ravens nearby. I pause and hold my breath and imagine what secrets are beneath the empty field.

  • Poem – Temporal

Passing beneath and over bridges the road opens into the sleeping city. Distant streetlights reflect off glass windows while a train emerges from perfect darkness and motors south and east. Silence returns and the monotonous driving becomes temporal when the new moon reaches from beyond the earth appearing as an orb of legend.

  • Poem – Into the Sky…

We gaze from the wet earth from the snow piles and appreciate the warm sun and the wind through pine masking distant city sounds.

  • Poem – Beneath the Lights

Sirens fade into the cityscape. Cigarette smoke encircles the face. She stands at the corner lost. She stands at the corner waiting. The city lights mask the darkness sleeping beneath bridges, the depth of hopelessness strolling midnight streets. Beyond here false prophets speak hollow words and promises that never come to fruition, they never come…

  • Winter’s Message

Within the depth of winter, there is a message.  As 2013 comes to a close, we look back and look forward.  What can we do to better ourself as an individual and within the community we all are part of to some degree? Winter has blanketed the land and trees with her white wonder.  The…

  • Poem – The Common Square

Cathedral rings the morning call arousing the children from a distant land of baseball and open sand lots using tin cans for bases Life streams from the east over the cathedral spires patiently bringing light to shadows chasing away the midnight sun The downtown commons unusually busy this time of day, merchants crowd the street…

  • Poem – Crowd gathers in a cold city, in February

A slow sunrise behind rooftops and elm. Winters breath across a frozen lake. Flock of birds heading east near silence their cry. Airplanes shadow across the stone bridge. A crowd gathers in line for coffee and doughnuts. A child passes on a rusted red bicycle. A few people turn and watch him ascend the hill…

  • Poem – Peace in the City

Winters breath across the near frozen lake and the sandy beach frosted. Plump robins swoon from branch to treetop. Last years leaves slowly drying and the air filled a sharp musty. Drawn into the space away from concrete and glass. Quiet, personal reflection amplifies, becomes front and center. Chatter, chaos, the fray put on-hold (it…

  • Poem – City

I walk the midnight valleys of this desolate city mired in the remnants of industry. I walk the tunnel of black light with no beginning or end and the underlying fear this will begin again consumes more of each day. I walk beneath the remains of each day searching through rubble, scraps, picture frames and…
