Poem – Shifted Wolves

From the collection “Beyond the Border Kingdom“.

(1)

In dreams
the white wolf
stands beside
the black wolf

Emerging from
unnamed star fields
walking across
a bridge of light
against gravity
against laws of physics.

I felt no fear.
I felt no fear.

Distant galaxies
produce and consume
light.

Skewed and shifted
before arriving here
and matter we cannot see
fills the space.

This universe
spirals further
from the beginning
stretching into
unknown space
at speeds we
cannot fathom
beyond the traditional
rules we theorized
from the variables
we created.

The universe spirals further
from the beginning
around a black hole –

gathering light
gathering matter.

At the event horizon
pink cubes gather strength.

Poem – This is Life

From the collection “Beyond the Border Kingdom“.

(1)

ocean waves crash against the rotting pier
yellow tape snaps where the line sheared
jagged pylons protrude from blue sheen
holding the August sun captive.

slow steps in wet sand
waves wash my feet
deposit shells, stones and starfish.

a pale crab emerges
scurries behind the boulders.

summer drags forward
through the molasses sands.

hot sweat into the eyes
focus becomes singular
thoughts become focused
forced to go within.

that which we thought we knew
is only in the mind.
that which is true
is in the hands of the universe.

Poem – What We Choose

Beyond the objects and projections we see
there lies the energy and matter,
the ancient building blocks
arranged in shapes
denoted with absorption and reflection
of light.

What we see exists only at the moment.
What we see is an extension of ourselves,
of the same fragmented and scattered material
coming together through the reality we choose.

Poem – Place

I was not meant to be in this place, at this time.
Distant fields of clover and Indian grass fold
into itself as mountains rise
from the virgin earth and we are witness
to the changing landscape, to the dawn of a new era.

The relative nature of space and time
the fluctuations bring me closer and
further at the same moment to the
true being, the being within struggling
to break free struggling to catch
the first and last breath.

Which version of myself decided
this was the place for me?

Which version of myself cast
shadows across ice fields
hunkered down beneath
overhanging ice and the
first ray of light across
the crystal horizon,
the peak near?

Which place is real
and which place do I belong within?

Poem – Excerpt from Beyond

The following is an excerpt from the upcoming book “Beyond the Border Kingdom”.

I look over the empty sea
void of waves and ships
and imagine you walking from the horizon
toward me, gaining shape
and definition, yet still
a shadow, a faceless being
that I have attached the label of “you” to
but my reality is I do not know who you are
and I have no fear or reason to flee.

Closer the shadow comes as
the sun emerges across the boundary
and the shadow is swallowed in light
and I slip from here before knowing.

Poem – Border

The border defining a boundary
the line between worlds, realms,
our consciousness
exists only in our minds
a projection of the hardship
we impose, we feel, further
defined and limited
by action or inaction.
