Poem – Rain

When my mind becomes scattered,
when each of the thoughts I held
in my core is lost to the wind,
I seek out answers and resolutions
from the natural world.

On mornings when the grey sky
covers the sun and the forest
lives in its own green exterior,
the cold air lays upon the skin,
and you know that rain is near.

Each drop a fragment of some
larger being or existence beyond
this world and my body reacts to the cold
by reassembling the core and bringing
this being back into a whole form.

Poem – Destination

The path through the
heavy pine and white fog
will become the destination
you choose.

Poem – In the Distant Valley

A wanderer of the frozen lands,
I stopped at the edge.

A silence wrapped in wind
and ice scattered across

the valley and we took
shelter beneath overhanging rock.

In the morning after the fire
we hiked 7 days to the distant valley

steeped in legends of living spirits
and the black wolves guarding the way home.

Poem – Here and Now

2016-01-01 07.25.33

(1)

As the sun sinks
into the grey water
we watch one year
become another from
atop the cliff over
the white valley.

(2)

As we run beneath the
rising moon, the moon
becomes us and we become
light.

(3)

To the normal routine
one year has passed and
another arrived.

To the natural world,
nothing has changed as
the sun rises over the water,
birds take to the sky,
and birth and death continue.

To the human I am in this
routine and natural world,
the challenges remain, the past
is remembered, yet I have let it go
enough to not be a hindrance,
but a lesson and I vow to be better
today than I was yesterday.

I am determined to be here and now.

Poem – Time

I have been down that path
beneath that same sky before
but still, each time it is new,
on a different day, with a different
mindset, with intentions to make
the most of the time given.

Poem – This Way Before

I have been down this path before
that empty silent road leading
nowhere and everywhere, the cold
wind, the bare trees, and the sky
merging with the earth –

where does it end
and where does it go?

I have been in that state
of disconnect, beyond lost,
detached from people, from
reality, from myself, from home –

that place we come from
and look to for direction.

I looked, and looked everywhere,
out there, in the distance, to the sky
with anger and confusion, to others –

until I finally found the answer
here, starting with my feet touching
the dirt, and in each leaf and in
each animal gracing the earth.
